There’s no doubt in my mind that cookies are a dessert staple. Now that I think of it, who am I kidding: Cookies aren’t just for dessert, they’re good any time of the day! There is nothing better than a fresh-from-the-oven, warm, chewy chocolate chip cookie (except maybe a Snickerdoodle…or peanut butter cookie…or oatmeal raisin…). I love all kinds of cookies, and I usually find myself returning to my favorite traditional cookie recipes. But, sometimes it’s good to push the envelope with creative cookie ideas.
When deciding on a cookie recipe, it’s good to try something new and different. Whether it’s a whole new cookie concept or just a new twist on a classic, these 10 creative cookie ideas will have you thinking outside of the cookie box! You may just find a new favorite recipe (or three or four).
1. Apple Pie Cinnamon Cookie
Apple pie and cookies…that’s two super delicious things combined into one bite-sized package! Not to mention that these cookies are seriously cute; they look like little apple pies, and they taste just like it, too!
2. Flourless Peanut Butter & Jelly Cookies
Peanut butter and jelly go together as well as milk and cookies! It turns out that you can have it all with these Flourless Peanut Butter & Jelly Cookies from Sugar-Free Mom! These grain- and sugar-free peanut butter cookie are baked with a jelly center, so every bite is reminiscent of a PB&J!
3. Coconut Lime Shortbread Cookies
These buttery, shortbread cookies are baked with lime and coconut before being topped with a citrus glaze. It’s unusual to find this combination of flavors together in a cookie; a pie maybe, but never a cookie. If you’re a fan of tropical flavors, you must give this Gimme Some Oven recipe a try!
4. Cinnamon Roll Cookies
Cinnamon Rolls are one of my favorite sweet treats, so when I saw these cookies over at Keepin’ It Kind, I knew that they had to make it onto my list of creative cookie ideas! They’re made basically the same way as cinnamon rolls, just sliced thinner and baked until crispy. Then, they’re gloriously drizzled with icing and ready to be enjoyed any time of the day!
5. Pretzel Cookies
This pretzel cookie recipe from A Family Feast puts a whole new twist on cookies (pun intended)! They are soft and chewy like a pretzel, but sweet like a cookie and topped with chopped nuts and sugar. They will definitely stand out as being unique and different than any other cookie!
6. No-Bake Almond Joy Cookies
Cookies and candy are two of the best things in life! These Almond Joy cookies are the best of both worlds. They’re easy to make with only five ingredients, and you don’t even have to turn on the oven. The coconut, almonds, and chocolate chips mimic the flavors of an Almond Joy bar perfectly, but they’re actually healthy. You won’t need to feel a smidgeon of guilt as you enjoy these!
7. Chocolate Pumpkin Filled Cookies
Reach for one of these cookies if you need something packed with indulgent flavors. The chewy, chocolaty cookies are sandwiched between a rich, creamy inside that’s just bursting with pumpkin-flavored goodness. They might look like a fall-themed Oreo cookie (and, they taste just as sinfully delicious as those unhealthy treats), but these cookies are actually packed with good-for-you ingredients: whole-wheat flour, coconut oil, fat-free cream cheese, and beta-carotene-rich pumpkin puree. These make a perfect after-school snack, and you could easily serve up a tray for any fancy party.
8. Lemon Blueberry Buttermilk Cookies
Lemon and blueberry are fresh flavors that invoke the feelings of warm sunny days and carefree childhoods. This recipe from Two Peas and Their Pod is all of that in cookie form! These soft cookies are topped with a lemon glaze and dotted with specs of yellow and brilliant blue berries. They’re beautiful, delicious, and quite different from the average cookie!
9. Berry Baked Alaska Cookies
Live Eat Learn created a cookie from the classic Baked Alaska Dessert. Cranberry shortbread cookies are topped with berry-stuffed ice cream and coated with toasted meringue. Genius! They look so different from other cookies and the combination of flavors is unique and interesting!
10. Muddy Buddy Cookies
Muddy Buddies (also known as puppy chow) was one of my favorite childhood snacks, so these Muddy Buddy Cookies just had to round off the list of creative cookie ideas! Peanut butter cookie…check! Rich chocolate coating…check! Dusting of powdered sugar…check! All of the flavors we know and love about Muddy Buddies combined into a perfect cookie!
