Why We Love Turkey Sausage
Over the last few years, a number of artisanal chicken and turkey sausage manufacturers have come forward. We love what these guys are doing! They make turkey sausage in so many different flavors and varieties. They can come both as link sausage and bulk sausage, so there’s something for everyone.
For this recipe, we like using bulk turkey sausage. It makes it really easy to cook and it infuses the flavor of the sausage into all the rest of the ingredients. You could choose any type of sausage variety you like, but we especially like a smoked turkey sausage or a garlic-flavored sausage. These flavors will meld really well with the ginger, green onion, and soy sauce flavors in this turkey sausage egg roll bowl sauce.
Stir Fry Cabbage
If you’ve only used cabbage in coleslaws and salads, you might be surprised that we’re cooking it in this stir-fry. We use a combination of green and red cabbage and give it a brief saute, until it’s softened but still retains some of its crunch. Once you try cabbage this way, you’ll have a hard time going back to raw cabbage!
Using both colors of cabbage not only adds additional nutrition, but it also contributes color and flavor as well. The green cabbage brings a softer texture and tons of vitamins C, K, and B6. The red cabbage brings the color and a serious crunch, along with anthocyanin antioxidants that protect red blood cells.
After you give the cabbage a quick toss with the sauce, it will make it easier for your body to digest. It also brings out a unique nuttiness that will totally satisfy your cravings. This addition will have you diving back in for bite after bite.
A quick, healthy, dish that satisfies cravings? Yes, please! Give this amazing turkey sausage egg roll bowl a try and let us know how it compares to your favorite Chinese takeout. We think it’s a perfect replacement, but we’d love to know what you think.
