5 DIY Soaps and Scrubs

If you’re looking for a fun activity for the weekends or something to get the kids involved in, this is the perfect one! Often times soaps and scrubs from the store can include harsh chemicals and other unknown ingredients that we are unaware of, so why not try making your own? It can be a fun family activity or one for a girls’ night in and you will know 100% of all the ingredients that go into the final product that you can actually use daily! Here are 5 DIY soaps and scrubs that are easy and fun to make.

1. Vanilla Latte Soap 

Ingredients: 3 c. vegetable glycerin soap, 2 tbsp. coconut oil, 1 tsp. vanilla essence, 1/3 c. coffee grounds, and rubbing alcohol (as needed)

Give your shower routine a caffeine boost with this vanilla latte soap! Simply, melt the chunks of the vegetable glycerin soap and stir in the coconut oil (which is a great natural moisturizer) and the vanilla essence. Spray your mold with rubbing alcohol to set the soap. Line your mold with a layer of the coffee grounds (as thick as you would like). Pour the soap mixture over the coffee powder and spray again with the rubbing alcohol. Then, let it set in the freezer for around 30 minutes.

2. Autumn Aromas Sugar Scrub

Ingredients:  1 c. brown sugar, 1/2 c. coconut oil, 1/2 tsp. cinnamon, 1/4 tsp. pumpkin pie spice, 10 drops of apple cider fragrance oil (or any other fall scent of choice)

Reminiscing about the scents and aromas of fall? Well, look no further than this scrub! This DIY scrub is so easy if you run out, you can whip up a new batch in no time. All you have to do is mix all the ingredients together. That’s it!

3. Tropical Pina Colada Scrub

Ingredients: 1 c. sugar, 1/2 c. coconut oil, pineapple fragrance oil, and yellow food coloring (use as needed)

The best way to get ready for summer is to make a batch of this sugar scrub. Mix the food coloring with the sugar first. Color as needed, but it only takes a few drops to give it a tropical glow. Then, add in the coconut oil and the fragrance oil. The amount of oil you use will change the consistency of the scrub as you desire.

4. Simple Shea Butter Soap

Ingredients: Shea butter soap base, coconut soap fragrance, and soap mold

This simple soap is a very basic recipe, but sometimes, simple is better for your skin and can be nourishing. Shea butter and coconut together do wonders for your skin and leave it extremely soft. The ready-to-buy soap base comes in cubes that can be melted in the  microwave. The fragrance is then stirred in and the mixture is poured into the mold. Let it sit till hard or for around 45 minutes.

5. Lush Lavender Goat Milk Soap

Ingredients: Goats milk soap base, lavender essential oil, soap colors, dried lavender flowers (optional)

Ever thought of using goat’s milk soap? Probably not, but after making and using this one, you might become a fan! The soap base comes in cubes that can be chopped up and melted in the microwave. Once you have the base, you need to add in the rest of the ingredients: the essential oil, coloring, and dried flowers. For the coloring, you can stick to a classic lavender shade or opt for any other color of your choice! Once you have the mixture, let it set in the mold.
