It’s that time of year again. Every winter, me and all my friends seem to be reevaluating our healthy living and weight loss goals. I don’t know why it seems to come around in the winter time, when it’s natural to crave comfort foods. While it’s totally possible to eat healthy comfort food, I always make poor choices. You know, the ones that pack on a few extra pounds! Maybe the cold-weather timing isn’t coincidental and my body is just craving those fresh foods it had all summer long. No matter the reason, we can help you get back on track with this simple but effective Cleanse & Detox Smoothie.
This recipe is a great addition to a Three Day Cleanse & Detox if you’re wanting to go that far, or you can just drink it once a week to flush out the toxins. I’ve definitely enjoyed this smoothie as a grab-and-go option on my way into work. I love how easy it is to throw together, and it really does taste delicious, too (more on that in a moment). You might even lose a pound or two along the way, especially if you couple this drink with other healthy eating choices and a new workout routine!
A Delicious Tasting Cleanse & Detox Smoothie
You might be wondering how something called a Cleanse & Detox Smoothie could taste good. Some might say that the things that tasted too delicious may have lead you to need a detox in the first place! But, we don’t believe in forcing our taste buds to endure terrible things. If you have to plug your nose to choke it down, we probably didn’t do our job right in developing the recipe!
Healthy food can taste great, too, and that includes cleansing smoothies. That’s why we added sweet apple, tart lemon, and pungent cinnamon to the drink. These ingredients work really hard to balance out all the greens. Because I think we’d all agree there’s nothing particularly tasty about blended kale and celery!
I wouldn’t quite call it a sweet drink, but it does taste really good. The cinnamon has a funny way of tricking your brain into thinking this drink is sweeter than it is, thanks to all those pastries that combine cinnamon and sugar. We didn’t add any extra sugar, because we wanted to keep this as a sugar-free drink. If you have a hard time with that, you could add a natural sweetener like honey or pure maple syrup – as long as you’re not on a detox or diet plan that cuts out sugar.
You could also make some changes to the greens if you’re really having a hard time with the kale. The celery is pretty essential because it provides your body with a ton of water, fiber, and potassium. But if kale isn’t in your wheelhouse, feel free to swap in the more mild-tasting spinach. In the meantime, try some of our favorite kale dishes (like this Crunchy Kale and Brussels Sprouts Salad and Squash and Kale Gratin, for starters) to acquire a taste for this delicious green!
