Bathroom and Kitchen Cleaner | Chemical-Free Cleaning Recipes

I wouldn’t say that cleaning my house is my favorite activity, but it’s one of those necessary tasks that helps keep my family safe and healthy. That doesn’t mean that I have to use chemical-laden products, though! When I was looking for an alternative to those toxic-smelling bathroom and kitchen cleaners, I had read that you can make chemical-free cleaning recipes using vinegar and baking soda. Since I always have apple cider vinegar on-hand (it’s one of my favorite natural weight-loss supplements), I made this easy apple cider vinegar bathroom and kitchen cleaner. I was amazed with the results!

Vinegar is a natural, chemical-free alternative to harsh store-bought cleaners. It’s relatively inexpensive, too, when compared to those Scrubbing Bubbles and Mr. Clean products available at the store. Most people use distilled white vinegar for cleaning, but apple cider vinegar works just as well. It has the same level of acidity as white vinegars and it smells nicer, too!

How This Easy Bathroom and Kitchen Cleaner Works

You might be wondering how this kitchen and bathroom cleaner works. After all, don’t you need chemicals and bleach to kill bacteria? As it turns out, you don’t! Apple cider vinegar is a nontoxic, biodegradable alternative to chemical cleaners. While it’s not quite as effective as bleach (which kills 99.9 percent of germs), it is strong enough to kill bacteria and combat other grime.

While the apple cider vinegar disinfects, the baking soda acts as a scrubbing agent. When you combine baking soda and vinegar, a chemical reaction occurs. Don’t worry – this still qualifies as one of the best chemical-free cleaning recipes! The reaction simply creates bubbles, which helps lift stains or stuck-on gunk.

Then, you add in the water to make the solution safe for most surfaces. You should always test out a small section of your kitchen or bathroom before cleaning the entire area, just to be sure. But, the amount of water in this recipe should dilute the acetic acid in the vinegar enough to prevent most surfaces from clouding up or dulling finishes.

How to Use This Kitchen and Bathroom Cleaner

You can use our easy apple cider vinegar bathroom and kitchen cleaner anywhere you would use a chemical cleaner! Use it to clean and sanitize the inside of the microwave, refrigerator, or dishwasher. It’s also very effective at removing built-in grime and grease on the countertops, range top, or the inside the oven.

This is also one of our favorite chemical-free cleaning recipes for disinfecting and cleaning the bathroom. We all know the bathroom can get a little gross from time to time. Use this cleaner around the toilet bowl, on the floors, or in the shower. I especially love how it removes those pesky odors in the drains!
